Keep on running

By Glenn Sanderson | Published: February 9th, 2010

To encourage running / walking to work. Something that I pratice and works wonder for me. An incentivised scheme encouraged by employers, whereby they offer staff the opportunity to get a free pair of running trainers if they sign up for a specified mileage to walk / run per week. Companies would use a chip attched to the trainers, like used in marathons to monitor the mileage acheived in that week to ensure that participants are not shirking their duties! Plus offering the potential fo some fun competition if required. With the correct marketing defining the benefits you will achieve if you stick to the programme and reward incentives then people would come on board. I am sure that it could take off just not in your workplace but nationally.
Having been a commuter from Enfield to Southgate (4 miles), from experience I can provide the evidence that with the commitment within 6 months your lifestyle will change and you will realise that there are no boundaries to the potential of what the human body can do.
I initially got fed up with the bus journey from work to home as it took so long. 1 hour for what should have been a 20 minute commute. I initially walked / ran home every day which took me 1 hour , developed to running all the way home 45 mins. Within 6 months I was running it in 27 mins! I lost 5 inches on my waist and saved myself money in the process. Once the benefits are realised then people will not go back to their old regime!
