Go Explore London with The Go Game

By Mei Li">Mei Li | Published: March 17th, 2010

We’re from The Go Game and we design technology-fuelled, reality-based interactive adventure games that inspire creativity, collaboration, and most importantly for Go London, physical activity! Our location-based games are bigger and better versions of a treasure hunt that ask players to read text and photo-based missions on the web browser of their mobile phones that they complete for points. Missions might include sleuthing puzzles based on clues in the urban environment, creative challenges captured on your mobile or digital camera, and even staged interactions with one of our secret Go Game agents!

For example, a game based in the Westminster area might have participants solve a puzzle about a plaque somewhere outside Westminster Abbey, then walk over to Parliament Square to find our mysterious operative in the red hat to get a password, then head across Westminster Bridge to take a silly photo of themselves with the sculptures in front of the Southbank Centre. In completing other similar missions, players would walk around earning points, learning interesting facts, enjoying unexpected interactions, and being creative with each other while barely noticing they’re moving the whole time. We’ve run thousands of Go Games around the world where people are so focused on playing and competing that they actually run around for an entire 2 hours doing as many missions as they can!

We can produce these games in locations all over London to encourage people to walk around and interact with the history, architecture, local businesses, interesting quirks and hidden gems of their surrounding environment. The Idea could be designed as multiple games that would be available at all times to play independently, so you could show up at any of the stated ‘game zones’ in London and log into the game and play. In this scenario, participants would be able to send or upload their team photos after the game to a public website open for voting. Players could share their submissions online and earn more points to win prizes.

Another option is series of events where people would sign up to play and compete directly against each other in games staged in various locations around London. These games would be led by facilitators and would feature a cast of professional performers sprinkled throughout the game zone. These staged games would end at a final location where teams could view their funny photos and videos taken during the game at an ending presentation and vote for their favourites and determine a Go Explore London winner of the day!

Regardless of the format, we design our games to encourage meaningful interactions, play and creativity, and exploration of the local environment. It just so happens that The Go Game also facilitates enjoyable physical activity and could be designed to engage people even further in aspects of healthy living. We would love the opportunity to get people involved in Go London with The Go Game!

Additional photos from our games can be seen on our Flickr page and more information can be found on The Go Game website

Thanks very much for your consideration.
